How unethical is it to pay for graduate school economics answers?
Q. ...On a scale of 1-10, with 10 meaning "going straight to hell" , and 1 meaning "no ethical problem" , how unethical is it to pay an economics professor in India for excel spreadsheet answers to complicated financial problems which comprise approximately 30% of the grade for a gradutate level class?

A. I consider it an offense of the highest degree. WHY in the world do you even need to do this if you are intelligent enough to be in grad school?Sure, it may be very difficult, but you will feel much better (and be better educated) if you work out the answers yourself. I abhor cheating in any form.

Why is it unethical to exclude information from a job application?
Q. I found an ad for a potential job. The only problem is that the ad specifically mentions that it is "a continuing, full-time position." I know I will be returning to college in the fall. Why is it unethical to apply for the job without mentioning this fact?
Asked by QTGirl - Tue Feb 19 12:36:32 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Two come to mind: 1. You're putting the employer in a bad situation knowing that you only want the job for a short time. The employer will waste time and money training you, only to have you leave. They must then start the process all over again. 2. Someone else won't get the job who is qualified and who will stay. Not fair to that person.

Why is it unethical for a manager to use their formal position to impose specific goals on an employee?
Q. Why is it unethical for a manager to enter a participate goal-setting session with a pre-established set of goals that they want the employee to accept? Why is it unethical for a manager to use their formal position to impose specific goals on an employee?
Asked by Francis - Fri Feb 6 06:49:07 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Depending on the wording of goals. Firstly for personal goals it is unethical period because one of the basic human rights and rights granted by an employer (or officer thereof) to employee is for them to be able to set their own personal goals, to be able to develope themselves and derive enjoyment from realising goals in their own way. To use any position to enforce such goals is attempting to control an employee in a way to treat them as not being a human being. For other goals it is unethical or at least very stupid to have already pre determined an employees goals when you are in a session to determine them. If the process is about participation, formal imposition obviously prevents it occurring.

Q. Choose a current event that displays ethical behavior and another current event that displays unethical behavior. You are required to provide a thorough discussion for each current event and explain why the behavior was ethical and/or unethical. In the case of the unethical event, what could have been done differently to change the behavior from unethical to ethical? In the case of the ethical event, what was the behavior that you felt displayed ethical guidelines. * I am not looking for anyone to do my homework for me. I have just been racking my brain to find current events. I have looked everywhere and can't seem to find anything. I was wondering if anyone would know where to find such things. A. The best example of unethical behavior is the current situation with the Governor of Illinois trying to sell the senate seat vacated by Barack Obama, How is it that Blagojevich can have a PRIVATE attorney in the Illinois House proceeding for articles of Impeachment?! That is the problem with Blago he treats the Governorship as his private office. Genson should be disqualified from representing Blago in the criminal trial now because of the conflict of interest presented by being the public official representative of Blago in the House proceeding. To put this point more bluntly: Blago s official role defending against impeachment could include actions designed to cover-up offenses related to the criminal charges. Blago and his attorney… [cont.]

Is it unethical to use rhetoric to manipulate people?
Q. I am writing an essay for my English Honors class as a response to Shakespeare's Julius Caesar, and this topic really interested me. Do you think it's unethical, or not unethical (not the same as ethical)? Rhetoric has been punctuated as a means of exercising authority over individuals; however, rhetoric also contains the power of freedom from that authority. Whether you think it's unethical or not, please provide explanations, reasons, etc. My argument is that using rhetorical speech in order to influence people is not unethical. I am looking for counterarguments and possibly as well as more reasons to support my thesis. Please use the current political campaigns if possible.
Asked by M - Wed May 21 01:15:05 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Rhetoric might be empty in term of facts, logic, and empirical evidence in a debate, but it is not unethical. Politics is about ideas, but that does not mean all ideas have to make sense or are even valid. It is the job of the person giving the speech to sway the audience to his way of thinking. He can use any verbal means in order to achieve this goal. It is the job of the audience to judge the words being spoken and to decide for themselves if the ideas are valid and if the reasoning in the speech is logical. If the audience is swayed by rhetoric, then the audience has not done its duty as critical thinkers.

Is it unethical for a minister to date a woman in his congregation?
Q. I have a friend over 40 and a widow who started dating her minister also over 40 and a widower. Some mutual friends are saying it's unethical and I'm saying it's not.
Asked by Innocent until PROVEN Guilty - Thu Apr 2 00:44:37 2009 - - 12 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's unethical because the power of perception can overcome the focus of his ministry, which I'm assuming is to bring his congregation closer to God. As a minister he needs to take this into account. In some ways it's like a doctor dating a patient, he / she can lose their license to practise, even though it looks very innocent. I hope that a few of his friends or group of church members talk to him about this, perhaps a few of her friends will do the same and she will end the relationship, not because she doesn't love him, but because she really care about him and his work.

Would it be unethical to use astrology to gain advantage over someone in the work environ?
Q. Environment? Say, you had someones birth information and you ran a composite chart to find out how you interact. And you discovered that you had certain persuasive powers over the other in a certain area. or if you analyzed the chart and found that the person was secretly self conscious and used that knowledge to get a leg up? Would you consider that unethical behavior? Would it make a difference if the person didn't believe in astrology or not? Please dish the dirt.
Asked by TeflonPrincess - Fri Feb 26 18:18:01 2010 - - 11 Answers - 0 Comments

A. nice question...no easy answer. I kind of think it is unethical to look up people's information for generating a natal chart without their permission, but you know, we all do it. So, we have to be realistic here. More importantly, though, I think that the intended purpose of the information is what determines if it is ethical or not..."to gain advantage over someone" or "use the knowledge to get a leg up" sounds unethical; to work in a more productive and cooperative atmosphere adds more of an ethical component to this practice. No, I don't think it matters whether the person believes in Astrology or not.

If I work for a newspaper is it unethical for me to leave and start my own?
Q. I just read an article in the Daily Gazette in Schenectady, NY about Phil Autelitano and Bill Fry who left The Record newspaper to start their own competing paper. They claim the community was being under-served and thought they could do much better. Is it unethical for them to do that?? I hear both sides of the story. They're not reporters. One was in sales the other in production.
Asked by unclesamsprinting.com - Sun Jun 15 09:53:31 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Not unethical at all. If they had moonlighted under pen names until their new publication got on its feet -- that would be highly unethical. But to resign from the publication to start a new one is completely above board and ethical. To leave one publication due to your strong belief in journalism not serving the public -- would be laudable. Even if they departed to earn more income as publishers -- which is doubtful -- their actions would still be ethical. As for hearing both sides of the story, I would need more information. From what you presented, this seems completely correct and I wish Autelitano and Fry well in their venture.

What is unethical about a dental student taking nitrous oxide?
Q. I asked a question before because I want to administer nitrous oxide to myself (I'm a dental student) so I know what the patients I will be working on are feeling etc. I know the chemical and pharmacological information on the drug. Plenty of people said it is unethical. What is unethical about this? It isn't like it is recreational use. It is important.

A. Nitrous Oxide (aka: Hippy crack) is relatively harmless and lasts only a few minutes. I don't think it would be all that unethical to try it yourself; however you need to find a safe way to administer it so that you don't get too much.
