How do I start listening to metal?
Q. For many years, I've been listening to pop and dance music. But lately, it's been getting really generic and boring. All the lyrics seem to be about is either sex or partying. Or both. And the beats behind the music just does my head in. It's just some stupid noise repeated over and over again with somebody speaking over it. I want something with actual meaning. I asked my friend and he said metal and rock had meaning behind it. So, now for the actual question, how do I start listening to metal? What are some good bands that break the barrier between dance and metal? Thanks.

A. The way you described pop and dance music is exactly how I feel. It really is meaningless/emotionless. Congrats on entering the world of real music with feeling. :) Personally, I don't listen to metal, but rock is my forte :). I would suggest Red Hot Chili Peppers. They have a ton of songs stretched out over a period of 20+ years, with very different sounds as they change as a band, and every song contains emotion and you can feel it. Led Zeppelin, of course, is a classic rock band as well. Pink Floyd is more of a psychadelic rock, but they have a ton of emotion and beautiful lyrics. And lastly, Nirvana's songs are so full of feeling and true emotion that they're reading to explode with it. They're more grunge/metal, so give them a… [cont.]
