What is ironic in the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" when Rainsford says...?
Q. Hello, I need help. I read the short story "The Most Dangerous Game" by Richard Connell, and I need to figure out what is ironic about the moment when the main character, Rainsford thinks to himself "All he knew was that he was safe from his enemy, the sea..." Can you explain to me why that was ironic? And what type of irony would that be? thanks for your help!!
Asked by music is love. - Wed Sep 16 14:20:09 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's ironic because Rainsford, having arrived "safely" at the island, is not actually safe, and the sea wasn't his real enemy. spoilers he is about to be hunted by General Zaroff as human prey. So I guess it constitutes, at that point, as situational irony. I don't remember the story exactly, but if the reader is aware of Zaroff's intentions before that part of the story, then the irony would be dramatic.

Why does Rainsford kill General Zaroff in "The Most Dangerous Game"?
Q. Is it because he wants to prevent others from suffering? Or because he wants to become the new general? Or something else? If you could prove it with the text of the story...that would be great! Thanks!

A. So, when the general tells him who he hunts for fun, that kinda tells you that that general zaroff needs to be stopped. So my guess is that Rainsford kills him to stop others from dying.

A. In MDG, Rainsford changes from the hunter to the huntee. He becomes a round character, not figuritively, metaphorically. Thru 3 climaxes 1) Zaroff letting Rainsford off 2) Malaysian Man Trap and lastly: 3) Rainsford in the room with zaroff you can see that he gains self-knowledge.

In the story "The most dangerous game" by richard connell, who is the better hunter ? Rainsford or Zaroff ?
Q. I just need reasons and examples please (=

A. well, in my opinion, Rainsford did. In the end, he survived against zaroff even though he had the disadvantage. He knew about hunting enough to avoid traps and even set some of his own. If you want zaroff to be the better hunter, you could say he had hunted people before and won every time. Zaroff had also hunted on every continent and list examples of other animals he had hunted.

Who would make a good Sanger Rainsford for a movie adaptation of The Most Dangerous Game?
Q. It's for a paper for school. (not really sure why we had to write about this). It can be any actor, alive or dead. I've already got Anthony Hopkins for General Zarrof, and I think i'll go with the russian from rocky for ivan, but I can't seem to think of anyone for Rainsford. Any help is appreciated.

Q. It will be light enough in Rio," promised Whitney. "We should make it in a few days."

A. He can't. He fell off the boat. At night. He swam to an island and got hunted. Even though he eventually won, it took him three days. There's no way he could make it to Rio that quickly. Whitney, on the other hand, definitely could.

do you think that Rainsford views on hunting have been permanently changed by his experience of being hunted?
Q. from the short story The Most Dangerous Game...all help is really appreciated
Asked by unknown - Tue Oct 6 01:57:18 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. He understands what it's like to be the hunted animal. He learned something after surviving that horrible experience. I don't believe that he will change his habits of hunting animals. If he devotes his life to hunting, then he's going to continue hunting. One experience won't change his habits or his passion.

Q. Why does Rainsford choose to confront Zaroff in the end, rather than simply ambush him?

A. because he's not a coward like Zaroff (who hunts unarmed men)...he knows that to truly be a man and to truly win this fight for his life, he needs to do it properly...also he wants Zaroff to know who killed him...he wants him to know in his last moments that it is Rainsford who was his undoing

Q. Short stories the most dangerous game what gives rainsford the idea to dig a trap?
Asked by MAY - Wed Oct 29 17:29:01 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. It's the only way to trap the hunter so he can have a chance to survive. I think he thought back to when he was a boy scout or something. Or that might have been from another story I read. I read this last year and I can't really remember that part really well. Sorry if it wasn't much help. But hey, it makes sense!
